You Darken Your Hair with TREE BARK????!??!

We are all beautiful. And we are all blessed w/ features - hearts - quirks - mannerisms - that are unique to each one of us.  Taking care of ourselves & being kind to our bodies should really be a joy to all of us.  We only have one body and it relies on us fully for 'care'.  This includes taking care of our hair.

Our hair texture is a direct reflection of our diets.
What happens on the 'inside' of the body is what shows up on the outside of our body....including our hair.  Did you know that? It's pretty wild but so true!!!

I have 'heard' that as you get older (aka late 30's & into your 40's and beyond) that your hair texture starts to get more course, fall out, etc. And I do not think that people are aware of the fact that there is so much you can do to stop hair loss naturally. I highly recommend that all of you utilize the site Hair Loss Revolution. This website is fantastic for teaching all of us about 100% natural hair care from nurturing the hair you have to taking healthy steps to prevent hair loss! Will, the Curator & Founder of Hair Loss Revolution provides his readers with an in depth education on how to make certain your hair is not falling out. And if your hair 'is' falling out, Will has a system to stop that process and even regain hair growth. I find his site fascinating. And he gets incredibly specific from supplements, approaches & resources (ebooks & more).  I think this is as critical for women as it is for men. Head over and let me know what you think. P.S. Hair Loss Revolution is about overall lifestyle & wellness as well so, this site is for all of us.

I am amazed at what a healthy diet free of processed & refined sugars, junk, gluten, processed dairy and boxed/canned foods.....can do for our overall bodies, skin, hair and yes, our minds/emotional health.

So let's talk about hair care....

I get asked about my hair a lot. We all get complimented on certain features, character traits, our smiles, style, skin, etc.  Well, I get complimented on my hair a lot which I always just graciously just say 'thank you'.  It always surprised me though because of how little I actually do to my hair.  And as I have gotten older, I realize that my hair remains so healthy 'because' I do so little to it!

I get my hair cut around once every 5-6 months. I cut the dead ends off myself between cuts. I rarely dry my hair with a blow dryer (I would say that I use a blow dryer maximum about once a month).  And I use no styling products on my hair...none.  If you go to most salons, they are recommending a laundry list of products to strengthen the hair and make your hair 'shiny' but I am here to share that you can have amazing hair by just eating healthy & taking a few supplements.

The most natural and rewarding results are when we work from the inside of ourselves.....out.  And NOT from the 'outside', in.
Think about that for a moment.

So, once in a while I do go to a salon to get my hair colored (my hair is naturally chocolatey brown w/ a hint of auburn in the summer).  And if I do, I make sure that I go to a salon that uses organic haircare products (that do not test on animals).  I prefer Salon Blonde or Ruby Room in Wicker Park/Bucktown.

For hair maintenance though, I rely on organic foods from the earth (avocados, nuts, seeds, spinach, kale, etc.) and sometimes, I will make my own mixture to darken my hair.  And it's a load of fun! Are you ready to hear about my homemade concoction? Cherry Tree Bark & Cloves! Yeppers!!!!! Yes, it's true.  I have a LOT of people say 'No you don't, what'?! Yes, I actually do.  And it's really cathartic to be in nature collecting the tree bark by the way.

There are a couple of recipes that you can read here - here -and here.

My hair maintenance per year costs less than 300.00 (mind you I am a fan of the blowout so that will increase the cost).  And 300.00 is what some women pay for a highlight/cut every single time they get both at the salon.  A woman's haircut is anywhere from 55.00-80.00 and coloring the hair ranges from 125.00 to 160.00.  Add a tip and you are pushing an obscene amount of money......and I forgot products!!!!

My hair is super thick, healthy & continues to grow like a weed!  And yours can be shiny - healthy - and soft - too.

You can have the best stylist in the world and if your diet is poor and filled w/ processed foods, it will affect not only your hair growth but your hair texture
. I promise you that and well, we are all our own 'proof'.  No clinical trial needed to reference, just look in the mirror.

As for supplements, I really take a heaping amount of Vitamin C with Rose Hip each and every day!  You can also go 'here' for more supplement support for healthy hair.

So there you have it! I had wanted to discuss my use of Cherry Tree Bark (and cloves) for a long time on the site and thanks to my reader Angela for prompting me! Some of my friends in the city think I have turned into a hippy chic which makes me genuinely laugh.  I really love taking care of my body and skin w/ natures best!

Medical Disclaimer: If your hair is falling out or grainy/course, see your physician. Often times, when we have hormonal/thyroid imbalances (even food allergies), these imbalances will affect hair growth/texture.
