Today I went 'behind the scenes' with the world's first cupcake bakery, Sprinkles Cupcakes!!! And the experience was exactly as I had envisioned!!! Frankly, it was a 'bucket list' moment filled with dreamy deliciousness!
Candace Nelson is the founder and pastry chef of Sprinkles Cupcakes. Started in Beverly Hills in 2005, Candace's sophisticated take on the classic American cupcake made Sprinkles an overnight bakery sensation. And the Chicago location is in the perfect locale in the Gold Coast on Walton Street.
What I genuinely appreciate about Sprinkles Cupcakes is their sustainability practices:
At Sprinkles, we care about our environment, a philosophy reflected in our purchasing decisions and company practices. Our bakery boxes, napkins, shopping bags and giftboxes are made from recycled materials. We take sustainability seriously by purchasing high quality dairy and produce from local farms where available. Other efforts include the use of green cleaning products and programs to maximize waste recycling and minimize water usage.
We also regularly support non-profits committed to preservation and conservation. Learn more about Sprinkles Earth Day campaign which has raised $94,050 for environmental health organizations since 2008.
I was super excited when I met Lara, the Public Relations Representative for Sprinkles & Ashley, the General Manager of Sprinkles. I was trying to be cool, maintain composure but inside, my inner child was doing somersaults!
The Sprinkles Kitchen presented with clean lines, glorious cupcakes on silver racks (in every direction) and the room smelled of that sweet aroma that cupcakes naturally bring! And everyone was happy & smiling! How can you not be when you are in Sprinkles cupcake land.
Ashely demonstrated how to frost a cupcake, Sprinkles style. Sprinkles has a very 'signature' style' with the circular colorful candy dot in the center. Easy peasy.....no problemo....I can frost a cupcake. And several mistakes later, I still couldn't perfect the Sprinkles signature style! Ashley was willing to give me as many cupcakes as I wanted to! In the end, I just didn't have the skills to master it so, I just ate them!
As you may or may not know, Sprinkles now has more than their one of a kind cupcakes! They now have sundaes and cookies!!! You seriously must try their sundaes. So -insanely - good. And worth-every-bite.
Now, mastering the Sprinkles Sundae? THIS I can do!!!!! First, Ashely showed me that you place the bottom 'cake' of the cupcake in a cup, top with the most amazing Sprinkles ice cream & cover it with the most decadent Sprinkles top of the cupcake (aka the frosting) ever!!!! I almost went into a happy sugar coma but managed to stay alert.
And as you can see from the photo below, I knew exactly what to do next....no direction from Ashley required.......eat! What was I thinking in this photo? "OK, OK, you caught me eating vs. baking. What did you expect would happen, placing a cupcake lover in Sprinkles kitchen"?!?!?!?!
And this concluded Ashley & my frosting cupcakes and making sundaes session. Now, it was time to dig in......well, dig in some more! Absolutely delicious!!!!
The variety of cupcake flavors at Sprinkles is pretty incredible. I genuinely appreciate that Sprinkles caters to all variations of individual dietary preferences: Vegan Cupcakes, Non-Vegan Cupcakes, Gluten Free Cupcakes, Dairy Free Sorbet....on and on! I believe this adds to the allure of Sprinkles actually as opposed to other cupcake bakeries in and around Chicago. In my opinion, nothing compares.
My favorite Sprinkles Cupcake is the Vegan Red Velvet. It's a must try when you go!
And thus my magical day at Sprinkles came to a close. In the photo that was taken of me below, a friend said to me "I know when you are really happy in photographs because you bite your tongue'. And my friend knows me so all too well. I am happy!!! Sprinkles staff is so lively and the overall atmosphere there is joy filled! And I am just so grateful for this whimsical tasty experience!!!!
So, as I stare at yet another cupcake, the question is, should I eat another or share? I decided to share! I am mighty proud of myself that I managed to only eat one Sprinkles cupcake the entire day....not bad!
Thank you so much to the PR Team & staff of Sprinkles cupcakes for letting me fulfill a fun dream of mine!!!! And thank you to Windy City Blogger Collective for giving me this opportunity as well!
And a VERY special thank you to Ashley for being patient with me as I turned to you for a new cupcake every few minutes because my frosting was consistently lopsided! It sure tasted fantastic though!
Head to Sprinkles everyone for a mouthful of yum!
