Overexposed..overstimulated.....overthinking.......utter madness!
Do you know how to rest your mind & body? Do you try? What helps you to feel restful? Take time to not only rest your body but your mind. Gosh, resting our minds is so critical to our overall health! Our minds are full of endless thoughts of the past, present, future, etc. It amazes me how many thoughts run through my head each hour of the day. God says to take each thought captive. He tells us to focus on what is 'true' - Philippians 4:8: Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things. How much of our thought lives are filled w/ negative events of the past, worry, anxiety, fear, anger, etc.? And we know where these thoughts lead to......a distressed body, cluttered mind, headaches, illness, etc. It doesn't lead anywhere that we want to go. And we act as if we have no control over this but, we have full control of our thought life. When a negative thought comes in, replace it with a biblical verse - prayer - a positive affirmation. Stress can kill you and stress can be a bundle of negative or worrisome thoughts. So back to my question of what brings you rest? I am eager to hear from you! For me, lying on a dock near water completely alleviates mental and physical stress for me. And I feel complete rest listening to the sounds of the waves. I am able to zone out. I also get so much rest when I shut off all technology and allow space/time alone w/ God. And I just talk w/ Him - tell Him everything going on in my life - listen to Him - and thank Him. Whatever you need to to do to incorporate rest into your 'daily' activity (even if it is 10 minutes), please consider doing it! Take care of yourselves. And note that rest doesn't have to mean napping or lying still. Rest to many is meditating in a yoga class, getting lost in a really good book or sitting on your husband's lap without saying a word. Rest shows up differently for all of us but we need to honor 'relaxation' as our bodies need a break (and our minds) Comments are closed.
